NexIoT

Real-time IoT pulse tracking for your production lines. Connect physical sensors directly to Nexshift and let your machines update the system automatically — no operator data entry required.

Premium Add-On — $500/month

Overview

NexIoT bridges the gap between your physical machines and the Nexshift platform. By connecting sensors or PLCs to Nexshift via MQTT, every pulse from a machine is received in real time — automatically incrementing output counts, calculating cycle times, and triggering downtime detection when a machine goes quiet.

Without NexIoT, operators log production manually at the console. With NexIoT, the machine does it for them. Operators can still interact with the console to record scrap, log downtime reasons, and submit quality checks — but the core output data flows automatically.

Good to know: NexIoT is an add-on to any Nexshift subscription. The core platform works fully without it — IoT simply removes the need for manual output entry on connected machines.

How It Works

NexIoT uses the MQTT protocol to receive pulse signals from connected sensors or devices. Each pulse represents a machine cycle — a unit produced, a count increment, or a heartbeat signal from the line.

01
Sensor sends a pulse

A physical sensor or PLC on your machine sends a pulse signal over MQTT each time a cycle completes.

02
Nexshift receives the signal

NexIoT receives the MQTT message and maps it to the correct machine and active production run in Nexshift.

03
Console updates automatically

Output count increments in real time on the production console. Cycle time and OEE are calculated on the fly.

04
Downtime detected automatically

If pulses stop arriving, Nexshift flags the machine as down. No operator action needed to trigger a downtime event.

Features

MQTT integration

Industry-standard MQTT protocol for reliable, low-latency communication between sensors and Nexshift.

Real-time output counting

Each pulse increments the output counter on the active run instantly — no manual entry, no delays.

Automated downtime detection

When pulses stop arriving beyond a configured threshold, the machine is automatically flagged as down.

Cycle time calculation

Nexshift calculates cycle time between pulses automatically, feeding directly into OEE performance calculations.

Multi-machine support

Connect multiple machines across the same site. Each machine is independently tracked with its own pulse stream.

Works alongside manual entry

Operators can still log scrap, downtime reasons and quality checks manually at the console — IoT handles output only.

Production Console

When NexIoT is active on a machine, the production console changes behaviour:

Note: If a machine has NexIoT connected, manual output entry is disabled on that machine's console to prevent double-counting.

Setup & Activation

NexIoT requires a one-off site activation per site in addition to the monthly subscription. Nexshift handles the full setup process for you.

01
Hardware selection

We help you identify compatible sensors or PLCs for your machines. Compatible hardware is available through Nexshift — pricing on request.

02
MQTT configuration

Nexshift configures the MQTT broker connection and maps each device to the correct machine in your account.

03
Signal testing & validation

We test pulse signals from each connected machine and validate that output counts match physical machine cycles.

04
Go live

Once validated, IoT tracking is activated on your machines. The production console starts receiving live data immediately.

Hardware

NexIoT uses NORVI industrial Ethernet I/O controllers (currently the NORVI-ENET-AE06-R-E) configured to publish pulse signals directly to Nexshift via MQTT. The specific unit required may vary depending on your machine type and is confirmed during the setup process.

NORVI controllers are configured by Nexshift as part of the IoT site activation process. This includes MQTT configuration, topic mapping to your machines, and signal validation before go-live. Nexshift can supply NORVI hardware directly — contact us for pricing based on your machine count and type.

Important: NexIoT is designed and tested specifically with NORVI hardware. We do not currently support third-party sensors or alternative hardware. Contact us before purchasing any equipment to ensure compatibility with your setup.
